Welcome to On Track marketing's first "Business Reflections" article.  I hope you will find the information helpful and educational. If you own a small business this site is for you, and I salute you. Did you know that small to medium enterprises comprise almost 85-90% of the jobs in Canada? You could say we are the backbone of the economy.

Small to medium size businesses are truly open to everyone. Small business cuts across all boundaries: ethnical, gender, monetary, age, cultural, or geographical to name a few.

I have known small business enterprises that started with as little as $1000 and a good idea. Behind every small business is a person with a dream, a desire, or a goal to make a difference in their life and the life of the communities they serve and live in. The richness of character is seen as you look at the variety of small business owners. The common thread among them all however, is the desire to have something they can call their own and a belief that they can do it better or at least as well as their competition. Many have struggled with start-up issues as they try to lift their dream off the ground. On the front end they have been called foolish, crazy, or too smart for their own good. When they experience success they are called lucky, easy money, or properly connected.

Most of these entrepreneurs have faced insurmountable odds and many experience at least a modicum of success. They all know what it's like to lay awake with problems and opportunities like: the experience of a cash flow crisis, the opening of a new powerful competitor, outgrowing a current location, finding good employees, difficulties with suppliers, equipment problems, government red tape, local bylaw issues and a hosts of other issues and difficulties but many have survived and are flourishing. How often during these processes have you wished you could look into the future to know what the outcome would be if you proceeded in a certain way?

Then the biggest dilemma all business people face looms up from time to time, "Where can I turn to for good advice?"
